100 ft PARK is pleased to present Somewhere Over the Rainbow, solo exhibition of Stephanie Sin from 7 June to 13 July 2014.
Inspired by the double-rainbows that appeared in Hong Kong few years ago, Stephanie Sin reproduces two rainbows in 100 ft. PARK and dedicates them to the neighbourhood in Prince Edward. Sin primarily works on oil painting; this installation is an extension of her regular practice. With a simple set-up, Sin plays with positive and negative space and re-enacts the ambiguous atmosphere and void often seen in her paintings in real space. Viewers are invited to enter and encounter the space and be part of the setting. The subdued experience is direct yet could not be captured with any means of documentation. Having the feeling that painting is not easy to comprehend for every viewer, Sin makes this installation with rainbows accessible to the neighbourhood and through which she brings joy to life.
Born in 1984, Stephanie Sin received her BA(FA) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (co-presented with the Hong Kong Art School) in 2008 and her Master of Visual Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013. As a painter, Sin takes influence from voids in living environments drawn from fragments of individuals to collective routine and insinuates the paradox of life in her works. In 2009, Sin founded Rental United with two artists and it serves as a cluster for collaborative experimentation, which currently focuses on installation and performances.
